Ukraine calls to block Russia in the IMO: voting on maritime security
According to Кулеба: At the opening of the 34th IMO Assembly, Ukraine called for not allowing Russia into the Council of the International Maritime Organization. It is known that Russia is actively conducting war at sea, particularly shelling Ukrainian infrastructure, turning the Black and Azov Seas into zones of terror, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukraine urges its partners to support the idea that only responsible states should participate in setting international maritime safety standards, thus the election of Russia to the IMO Council is unacceptable.
Currently, Ukrainian sailors continue their work amid maritime terror and relentless aggression from Russia. They ensure global trade by providing services around the world.
At the same time, Russia continues to expand its shadow fleet, creating threats to other vessels and the environment. The election of Russia to the IMO Council will confirm impunity for violators of international maritime safety standards.
Ukraine insists that only states that are responsible for maritime safety should be represented in international bodies that determine maritime safety standards.
