Ukraine Targets Russian and Iranian Entities with Sanctions

According to ХВИЛЯ: On March 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted new sanctions by signing decrees that implement decisions of the National Security and Defense Council. These measures target individuals and entities from Russia and Iran linked to Russia's military-industrial complex. This action underscores Ukraine's ongoing effort to disrupt the supply chains supporting Russia's invasion. Notably, the sanctions also extend to Russian Paralympians who have participated in the war of aggression against Ukraine.

The sanctions list includes:

  • 130 individuals;
  • 48 legal entities.

The restrictions apply to companies involved in producing the "Oreshnik" missile complex and those supplying components for "Kometa" series satellite navigation equipment. A separate set of measures is directed at Iranian citizens and firms implicated in manufacturing drones and missiles. As stated by the President's Office:

“These components are used in Russian drones, cruise and ballistic missiles, guided munitions, and aircraft that Russia employs to strike Ukrainian cities and communities.”

The sanctions also target Iranian individuals who assisted Russia in launching, deploying, and scaling up production of "Shahed" drones within Russia. Specifically, restrictions were placed on Iranian instructors who trained Russian operators of these drones, which have subsequently attacked Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure. The President's Office noted:

“These legal and physical persons helped Russia launch, deploy, and scale up Shahed production in Russia. Sanctions have also been applied to Iranian instructors who trained Russian operators of Shaheds that later attacked Ukrainian cities and energy facilities.”

Paralympians' Involvement in Military Actions

In a distinct decision, sanctions were imposed on 10 Russian Paralympians for their direct participation in military actions against Ukraine. This move highlights the broad scope of Ukraine's sanctions regime, which aims to hold all parties accountable for supporting the war effort.

The newly imposed sanctions are part of Ukraine's broader strategy to counter military aggression from Russia and its allies. They emphasize the critical role of international pressure through restrictions on individuals and companies involved in warfare. This step may further impact military cooperation between Russia and Iran, particularly concerning the production of drones and missiles used in the conflict against Ukraine.
