Ukraine Launches New Process for Troops to Return from Unauthorized Leave via Army+ App

Return of soldiers through the Army
В Україні запроваджено новий порядок повернення військових з несанкціонованих відпусток за допомогою додатку Army+.

Procedure for Service Members Returning from Unauthorized Absence

According to Главком: A streamlined procedure now governs how military personnel can return after being absent without leave (AWOL) or deserting their units. Service members must submit their requests through the Army+ mobile application, recruitment centers, or directly at their designated military units. Authorities have set a maximum review period of seven days for these requests, and once approved, soldiers are given five days to report to their assigned unit.

Those who file their request via the Army+ app can monitor their status, which will display as 'In Transit' on their Army ID screen. This status must be shown to representatives from the Territorial Recruitment Center (TCC), the Military Law Enforcement Service (VSP), or the National Police. If a service member goes directly to a military unit, they submit the request on-site and are immediately added to the temporary personnel roster.

Handling of Service Requests

The unit has up to seven days to verify the information. For requests submitted through recruitment centers, the processing time is also capped at seven days. Once approved, the recruitment center issues a paper travel order valid for five days. It is important to note that this new procedure does not apply to cases of unauthorized absence occurring after June 21, 2026. Returns after that date will be handled under existing legislation, without the option to choose one's unit.

This initiative aims to simplify and accelerate the return process, potentially improving unit organization and personnel management efficiency. By setting clear deadlines for reviewing requests and enabling status tracking through the Army+ app, the system introduces greater transparency-a critical factor under modern military service requirements. However, the restriction on returns after June 21, 2026, may pose additional challenges for service members and their families.

As the new procedure takes effect, it is noteworthy that nearly 200 service members have already submitted their requests to return from unauthorized absence through the Army+ app. This surge indicates a growing awareness and utilization of the streamlined process, which enhances the efficiency of military personnel management.
