Cash Instead of the Baby Kit: Ukrainian Parents Get a New Choice

One-Time State Support for Families With Newborns

According to ХВИЛЯ: The Pension Fund of Ukraine has confirmed that families with a new baby may choose between the standard 'baby package' - a box of infant supplies - and a monetary payment. This one-time assistance is available to every household that has welcomed a newborn. Unless the family makes a different choice, the support is issued as a starter set of baby items. However, parents are free to turn down the physical kit and request cash compensation instead.

How to Submit an Application

Applications can be filed either on paper or online. For those choosing the paper route, the request may be delivered to:

• a Pension Fund service center;
• an administrator at a Center for Administrative Services (TsNAP);
• an authorized official of the local community;
• a military administration office;
• or sent by postal mail.

In digital form, the application can be completed through the Diia portal as part of the 'eMalyatko' integrated service, or via the Pension Fund's web portal for electronic services.

The Pension Fund has also published a separate video tutorial to make the online application process easier. Earlier, Khvylia reported on the 'eYasla' benefit for working parents and on the updated child payment system scheduled for 2026.

This initiative is part of broader state support for families with newborns, designed to reduce financial strain while families adjust to their new circumstances. Giving parents the option of a cash payment instead of the baby kit allows them to respond more flexibly to their own needs and provide for their children in the way they see best.
