How Temporary State Aid for Children Works

According to ХВИЛЯ: Thousands of families across Ukraine currently receive temporary government assistance meant to support children whose parents are avoiding alimony payments. This aid is designed to help minors in difficult financial situations caused by a parent's failure to meet their financial obligations. The Pension Fund of Ukraine has outlined the key rules for receiving this benefit, which are essential for English-speaking audiences to understand given the large number of Ukrainian refugees and diaspora families who may still be navigating these systems.

A critical requirement is that if a child's father begins paying alimony, the family must notify the Pension Fund of Ukraine within 10 days. This notification period is established under paragraph 10 of the procedure approved by Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Resolution No. 189, dated February 22, 2006. Once the father starts making alimony payments, the temporary state assistance will be terminated effective the first day of the month following the month in which the alimony was received.

How to Resume Aid After Alimony Stops

If the father's alimony payments later cease, families can reapply to the Pension Fund of Ukraine to have the state assistance reinstated. According to the Pension Fund of Ukraine:

'If the father of the child stops paying alimony, you can again contact the Pension Fund of Ukraine to resume the state aid.'

This provision allows households that find themselves once more in need to access critical financial support. The system is designed to ensure that aid reaches those who genuinely require it while preventing misuse, and it remains a vital safety net for many Ukrainian families struggling to cover basic children's expenses due to unpaid alimony.
