Ukrainians evaluate life in Poland: how much they work, rent housing, and want to stay

Most Ukrainians in Poland are working and have already mastered the Polish language, but problems remain in healthcare, housing, and discrimination. 73% of respondents have jobs, while only 7% have their own housing. At the same time, the number of officially employed citizens of Ukraine has reached a record 784 thousand. This is reported by InPoland citing Rating Group.

How Ukrainians have adapted to life in Poland

60% of respondents have an intermediate or advanced level of Polish, while another 26% have basic knowledge. 12% are at the beginner level, and only 2% do not speak the language at all.

57% of Ukrainians are satisfied with their social adaptation, while 37% are dissatisfied. Half of the respondents have a warm and friendly attitude towards Poles, and 44% have a neutral attitude.

At the same time, only 30% of Ukrainians assess the attitude of Poles towards them as friendly, 46% as neutral, and 22% as cold. Over the past year, 31% of respondents faced discrimination due to nationality or ethnic origin.

Work, salary, and housing of Ukrainians in Poland

«73% of Ukrainians in Poland have jobs, 87% of whom work directly in this country. 4% have jobs remotely in Ukraine. 5% work remotely in several countries,» - the results of Rating Group state.

The financial situation has improved for 36% of respondents over the past year, worsened for 20%, while 41% did not notice significant changes. However, only 26% are satisfied with their pay, while 27% rate it negatively.

Earlier, research showed that the median net salary of Ukrainians in Poland is slightly less than 4500 zlotys.

81% of respondents rent housing. Only 7% own property, while 3% have their housing paid for by their employer. Meanwhile, 44% believe they will not be able to purchase their own housing in Poland, while 16% hope to do so in the future.

What problems do Ukrainians mention

Among the main difficulties, 29% of respondents mentioned psychological issues, 28% - difficult access to quality healthcare, 24% - health problems, and 23% - lack of opportunities for self-realization.

26% of Ukrainians are satisfied with medical services, while 32% rate them negatively. 25% are satisfied with rental conditions, while 28% are not.

How many Ukrainians want to stay in Poland

44% of respondents plan to live abroad permanently, while 43% do not have such an intention. Among those choosing life abroad, 40% want to stay specifically in Poland.

At the same time, 51% of respondents allow for a return to Ukraine: 8% are ready to do so in the near future, while 43% - after the end of the war. Another 26% do not plan to return.

The main condition for returning, 71% named safety and stability. For 36%, the development of the economy is important, and for 26%, the prospects for employment.

The Rating Group survey was conducted online from August 21 to 25 among 1000 adult Ukrainians living in Poland.
