Ukrainian pensioners can serve in the Armed Forces under contract

According to hvylya.net: The Ukrainian parliament approved a law allowing men and women over 60 years old to join the contract service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military units.

As reported by 'Hvylya', this is stated in the Judicial and Legal Newspaper.

According to the new law, individuals over 60 can serve in the military with a medical certificate and permission from the unit's leadership. Separate consent from the General Staff of the Armed Forces or the respective leadership is required for candidates for officer positions.

During martial law, contracts for individuals over 60 are concluded for one year with the possibility of extension for another year. If the serviceman does not meet the requirements, the contract may be terminated prematurely.

Complex process of attracting pensioners to the army

Administrative procedures and conditions for military service for individuals over 60 require a lot of time and resources. This includes medical commissions, probationary periods, and multi-level approvals.

  • due to the recognition of the serviceman not having passed the tests;
  • due to official incompetence.

This system will complicate the process of attracting pensioners to military service. Contracts for service automatically cease after the end of martial law.

The parliament passed a law that opens up the possibility for Ukrainian pensioners to serve in the army under contract after the age of 60. The new legislation defines the procedures and conditions for this category of servicemen while highlighting the complexities of joining the army after reaching retirement age.
