Ukrainian Athletes Make Their Mark at European Championships

According to Федерація Легкої Атлетики: Birmingham is hosting the European Athletics Championships, where Ukraine is already picking up podium finishes. Oleh Doroshchuk claimed silver in the men's high jump, finishing behind Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi, who successfully defended the continental title he won in Rome two years ago. Another Italian, Matteo Sioli, took bronze with a jump of 2.27 metres.

Doroshchuk was in commanding form, clearing every bar up to and including 2.30 metres, but he could not get over 2.32 metres. Tamberi managed that height on his second attempt, sealing the gold. With this result, Doroshchuk became the second Ukrainian athlete to earn a medal at the championships.

Pole Vault Qualification

In the pole vault preliminaries, Oleksandr Onufriiev powered through to the final with a clearance of 5.45 metres, while Vladyslav Malykhin missed out after recording 5.25 metres. The pole vault final is scheduled for August 16.

Doroshchuk's silver is a sign of the strong preparation and international competitiveness of Ukrainian track and field athletes.
