Employees of the Berlin Customs Road Traffic Control (KEV) inspected a bus from an Estonian carrier traveling from Stuttgart to Warsaw via Berlin. During the inspection, customs officials asked one passenger if he was carrying cash, to which he denied.

However, a search of the luggage revealed seven packages wrapped in shrink film and foil, containing 350,000 euros in cash. It turned out that the passenger was a citizen of Ukraine. An administrative proceeding was initiated against him, and the police seized all the money as evidence. The origin of the funds and their intended use remain unclear.

Customs rules and consequences

Customs officials are studying this case through clearing procedures. It is important to note that travelers entering or leaving Germany must declare any cash they transport at the border totaling 10,000 euros or more, without any request. Violation of this rule may result in a fine of up to one million euros.
