Merkushina Claims Junior World Title in Mass Start 60

According to НОК: Ukrainian biathlete Oleksandra Merkushina has won the gold medal in the women's junior 60-mass start event at the Junior World Championships in Arber, Germany. This marks her second medal of the tournament, following a silver in the individual race. Merkushina took the lead after the second shooting stage and crossed the finish line first, finishing 19.9 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor from Latvia.

During the race, Merkushina missed three targets on the shooting range but compensated with the fastest shooting time and the third-fastest skiing speed on the course. This victory is her third consecutive podium finish in the mass start 60 event at the Junior World Championships:

  • gold in 2024
  • bronze in 2025
  • gold in 2026

Overall, Merkushina now has six career medals from Junior World Championships: two gold, one silver, and three bronze.

Strong Performance for the Ukrainian Team

The Ukrainian team has collected four medals so far at this championship: one gold, two silver, and one bronze, placing them fourth in the overall team medal standings. The Junior World Championships will continue until March 8th.
