Ukrainian becomes the first champion of Europe in high diving

Nelly Chukanivska's victory at the European Championship

Nelly Chukanivska, a 19-year-old Ukrainian athlete, won a gold medal in women's high diving at the European Championship held on August 7 and 8 in Paris. This marks a historic achievement as she became the first Ukrainian to win a continental championship in this discipline. Chukanivska scored 324.70 points, confirming her high skill and preparation.

Competition and Results

In the high diving competition, Chukanivska was the only representative of Ukraine. The athlete successfully performed three dives from a 20-meter platform:

• The first dive earned her 61.10 points, allowing her to share the lead with German Iris Korinna Schmidbauer.
• After the second dive, rated at 91.20 points, Chukanivska took first place with a total score of 152.30 points.
• The third dive earned her 74.40 points, and before the final attempt, she was ahead of Italian Eliza Casetti by 16.90 points.

In the final round, Nelly increased the difficulty of her dive from 2.7 to 4.0, which impressed the judges. Her final dive was rated at 98 points, securing her a total score of 324.70 points. Eliza Casetti from Italy took second place with a score of 297.20 points, while third place went to Maik-Yelena Hallsbich from Germany with a score of 292.15 points.

This victory became the second gold medal and the sixth award for the Ukrainian team at Euro-2026 in water sports. Previously, the Ukrainian team achieved:

• Silver in synchronized diving from a 3-meter springboard thanks to Ksenia Bochek and Diana Karnafel.
• Gold in mixed synchronized diving from a 10-meter platform, where the champions were Oleksii Sereda and Ksenia Bailo.
• Bronze in synchronized diving from a 10-meter platform thanks to Oleksii Sereda and Mark Hrytsenko.
• Bronze in synchronized diving thanks to Ksenia Bailo and Sofia Vystavkina.
• Bronze in mixed team competitions.
