Ukrainian Air Defense Shot Down 89% of Targets During June Attacks by Russia
Effectiveness of Ukrainian Air Defense in June
According to Мін. Оборони: In June, the Ukrainian Air Defense demonstrated high effectiveness, shooting down 89% of aerial targets during massive Russian attacks. Russia launched nearly 6000 drones and missiles, of which Ukrainian forces destroyed nearly 5300. The biggest challenges for the air defense system are ballistic missiles, the interception of which requires a significant number of PAC-3 missiles for the PATRIOT missile system.
Intercept Statistics
Specifically, out of 5749 unmanned aerial vehicles of the "Shahed", "Gerbera", "Italmas" types, 5173 were intercepted, which is 90%. Among 66 cruise missiles of the "Kalibr", "Iskander-K", X-101 types, 59 were destroyed, also at 90%. However, out of 114 ballistic missiles of the "Iskander", "Kinzhal", 48N6DM types, Ukrainian forces shot down only 45, which amounts to 40%.
The authors of the text call on international partners to provide available interceptor missiles from stockpiles to protect Ukrainian critical infrastructure.
This data emphasizes the importance of support from international partners to strengthen the Ukrainian air defense system, especially in the face of constant threats from Russian forces. The effectiveness of air defense in combating drones and cruise missiles indicates successful integration of modern technologies, but it remains critically important to enhance capabilities for intercepting ballistic missiles, which pose a serious threat to national security and Ukraine's infrastructure.
Despite the successes of the Ukrainian Air Defense, the threat from Russia remains high, as evidenced by recent events such as massive attacks on Kyiv, during which over 50 missiles and 70 drones were recorded. This highlights the need for further strengthening of the air defense system to protect Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.
