Emily Conrad’s Breakthrough Performance in Europe

According to Главком: Ukrainian épée fencer Emily Conrad secured a bronze medal at the U-23 European Fencing Championships, which kicked off on April 25 in Cagliari, Italy. This marks the first podium finish for the national team at the tournament. The 18-year-old Conrad delivered an outstanding performance throughout the competition but fell short in the semifinals, losing 11:12 to Gaia Caforio, the reigning European champion and home favorite.

En route to the medal, Conrad defeated Lucrezia Paulis and Vittoria Siletti. Notably, Siletti had earlier eliminated Ukrainian fencer Alina Dmytruk in the round of 16, underscoring the fierce level of competition. Gaia Caforio went on to claim the European title by beating Osianne Fransillon 16:10 in the final.

This bronze is Conrad’s third career medal at the U-23 European Championships. She previously won individual gold in 2023 and team gold in 2024, making her the most decorated Ukrainian fencer in the history of these continental championships.

In addition, Ukrainian athletes Oleksandr Stabnikov and Alina Dmytruk earned bronze medals at the World Cadet and Junior Fencing Championships in the U-17 category. These achievements highlight the strength of Ukraine’s fencing program and the athletes’ readiness for future international competitions.
