Ukrainian fantasy film 'Mavka. A True Myth' is launching in international release

The Ukrainian fantasy film 'Mavka. A True Myth' directed by Katya Tsarik is starting its international release. The first screenings abroad begin on March 5. This was reported by the State Agency of Ukraine for Cinema.

Foreign premieres will start in Germany and Austria, after which the geography of screenings is planned to be expanded to other countries in Europe and North America.

The first stage of the international release will cover dozens of European cities. Screenings will be held in Ukrainian with German subtitles.

The initial rental route includes:

• 80 cities in Germany;

• 5 cities in Austria.

After that, the creators of the film plan to expand the release to other countries. Specifically, the film is set to be shown in:

• Canada;

• USA;

• Czech Republic;

• Israel;

• Netherlands;

• Belgium;

• Slovakia;

• Spain.

The film 'Mavka. A True Myth' is a romantic fantasy based on Ukrainian mythology and legends about mavkas and mermaids. The film expands the universe of the story 'Mavka. The Forest Song' and is aimed at an older audience.

The plot centers on the love story of the mystical forest nymph Mavka and biology student Lukyan. According to legends, a mavka would drag a person into the waters of the forest lake, but the heroine chooses her feelings. Meanwhile, dark forces are trying to turn her back to their side.

The film is created by the Ukrainian company FILM.UA, and international distribution is provided by FILM.UA Distribution. The start of the international release is scheduled for March 5.
