According to Главком: Ukrainian basketball players are making significant strides both for their European clubs and the national team, boosting hopes for qualification to the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The national team's performance in the ongoing qualifiers has been particularly strong.

In the second qualifying round for the FIBA World Cup 2027, Ukraine defeated Denmark with a score of 88:71. This victory helped Ukraine remain among the top teams in its group after two qualifying matches. In its first match, the Ukrainian team secured a win against Georgia, finishing 92:79. Oleksandr Kovliar was the standout player in that game, scoring 31 points, along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists during his 37 minutes on the court. Oleksandr Lipovyi added 13 points, while Viacheslav Bobrov achieved a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Success in European Club Competitions

Beyond the national team's success, Ukrainian players are also posting results for their European clubs. Oleksandr Kovliar, playing for Budućnost, helped his team advance to the semifinals of the Montenegrin Cup. In the quarterfinals, Budućnost defeated Lovćen Cetinje 99:77. In that match, Kovliar played for 12 minutes, scoring 9 points, making 1 rebound and 1 assist, and receiving 5 fouls.

In the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League, the team VEF Riga suffered a defeat to Valmiera with a score of 77:110. Illia Sydorov played for 10 minutes in that game, scoring no points but making 2 rebounds and 1 steal, while receiving 3 fouls.

Also in the NCAA, the University of Oregon team lost to Minnesota 44:61. Oleksandr Kobzystyi played for 4 minutes in that match, making 1 assist. The next qualifying window for the 2027 World Cup will take place in February 2026.
