Ukrainian Drones Strike Oil Facilities in Novorossiysk and Volgograd
Drone Attack Targets Russian Infrastructure
According to ХВИЛЯ: On the night of June 8, unmanned aerial vehicles struck facilities within the Russian Federation. The targets included the Grushovaya tank farm in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai, and the Krasny Yar oil pumping station in Volgograd Oblast. Authorities in Krasnodar Krai confirmed a fire at the tank farm, where oil reservoirs were still burning as of the morning.
The Grushovaya tank farm, part of the Sheskharis transshipment complex, belongs to the structure of JSC Chernomortransneft (Transneft). The industrial site spans approximately 212–213 hectares, with a total reservoir capacity exceeding 1.2 million cubic meters. The Krasny Yar facility, also hit in the attack, lies about 510 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that 310 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight. Additionally, in the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol, a strike hit a substation, while explosions and a fire occurred in Alchevsk in occupied Luhansk region.
Escalation of Military Operations
This attack came a day earlier, on June 7, when Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck multiple targets in occupied Crimea and other areas. Among the facilities hit on the night of June 7 were:
- the Semikolodezyanskaya oil depot near Leninoye
- an oil depot in the Feodosia area
- an FSB command post near Volokonovka in Belgorod Oblast
- an ammunition depot near Svobodnoye in Donetsk region
- areas where occupiers were concentrated near Schastia in Luhansk region and Blagodatnoye in Donetsk region
This series of strikes on critical infrastructure in Russia and temporarily occupied territories underscores the intensification of military activities in the region. The escalation reflects both sides’ commitment to ongoing combat operations, with Ukraine apparently aiming to degrade enemy military logistics and command capabilities, potentially altering the battlefield dynamics. In response, Russia may bolster its defenses and launch counterattacks, further raising tensions in the area.
The recent drone strikes highlight a significant uptick in military operations targeting key infrastructure. This follows earlier attacks on oil depots in Crimea and Novorossiysk, which further demonstrate the ongoing conflict's intensity.
