According to Главком: On February 19, 2026, Ukrainian Nordic combined skiers Dmytro Mazurchuk and Oleksandr Shumbarets made their Olympic debut in the new team sprint event at the Winter Games. In this inaugural competition, the Ukrainian pair finished in 12th place. Nordic combined, which blends ski jumping and cross-country skiing, is a demanding and highly technical winter sport.

Competition Breakdown and Final Standings

The team sprint marked its first appearance on the Olympic program. In the ski jumping segment, Oleksandr Shumbarets recorded a jump of 103 meters, earning 66.4 points, while Dmytro Mazurchuk jumped 93 meters for 63.4 points. This placed the Ukrainian team in 14th and last position after the jumps, trailing the leaders from Germany by 2 minutes and 36 seconds.

During the cross-country skiing race, Mazurchuk and Shumbarets improved their standing, ultimately finishing in 12th position. They managed to overtake the teams from China and Poland but could not climb higher in the rankings. The gold medal was won by Norway, led by Jens Lurås Oftebro, who secured victory by a mere 0.5 seconds over second-place Finland.

This debut performance by the Ukrainian athletes contributed to the history of the Winter Olympics, showcasing their potential on the global stage in a new event.
