Surgeons Save 13-Year-Old Boy After Drone Shrapnel Pierces Entire Brain

According to Главком: In Dnipro, medical professionals performed a high-stakes surgery on 13-year-old Rodion, who was injured during a Russian attack. The boy sustained a wound from an FPV drone fragment that traveled through his entire brain. He arrived at the hospital in critical condition, and the operation lasted through the entire night. Thanks to the medical team's efforts, Rodion survived and has since been discharged home.
The surgery took place at Mechnikov Hospital. Neurosurgeon David Starik led the procedure, with anesthesiologist Yevhenia Gritsenko overseeing anesthesia. Hospital director Serhiy Ryzhenko commented:
"It was so complex that I couldn't believe a miracle was possible. Now I believe. A very difficult operation." - Serhiy Ryzhenko
He also emphasized that the patient 'endured everything' and expressed gratitude to the nursing staff for their healing skills: 'I thank neurosurgeon David Starik, anesthesiologist Yevhenia Gritsenko, and the nurses for their mastery in healing. We say goodbye with laughter, smiles, and tears.'
Rescue of Yurii Pyroh in Lviv
Separately, in Lviv, doctors at St. Luke's Hospital saved 44-year-old Yurii Pyroh, who was injured on March 24 during a Russian drone attack. Yurii lives on the 9th floor of a building in the Sykhiv district, and his 14-year-old daughter was with him at the time of the attack. During the incident, glass lodged just millimeters from his aorta, highlighting the severity of his injuries.
These cases illustrate the dangerous and challenging conditions civilians face in Ukraine, as well as the exceptional professionalism of medical workers who save lives under extreme circumstances.
