Ukrainian Athletes Shine at Continental Tour Event

According to Главком: Iryna Gerashchenko and Dmytro Nikitin of Ukraine secured gold medals at the Continental Tour stop held in Białystok, Poland. Gerashchenko set a new tournament record, while Nikitin triumphed in the men's competition. This was Gerashchenko's second start of the summer season; her previous outing was at the Diamond League event in Xiamen, where she and Yuliya Levchenko earned silver with a jump of 1.97 meters.

Gerashchenko and Nikitin Strike Gold

In Białystok, Gerashchenko claimed her first international gold since giving birth to her daughter. She cleared 1.90 meters on her third attempt and 1.93 meters on her final try. She then set a new tournament record by clearing 1.96 meters on her first attempt. She also attempted jumps at 1.99 meters and 2.01 meters-the latter being her personal best-but those efforts fell short.

In the men's event, Ukraine was represented by Dmytro Nikitin and Vladyslav Lavskyi. For both athletes, this competition marked the start of the 2026 summer season. Nikitin delivered an outstanding performance, clearing 2.20 meters on his first try and 2.23 meters on his third. No competitor managed to clear 2.26 meters. Nikitin took gold, finishing ahead of Greece's Antonios Merlos and Poland's Mateusz Kołodziejski, both of whom stopped at 2.20 meters. Vladyslav Lavskyi failed to clear 2.20 meters and finished in eighth place.

This victory marked Gerashchenko's first win in two years, while Nikitin's triumph underscored his readiness for the new season. Meanwhile, Yaroslava Mahuchikh continues to deliver strong results, having won the Diamond League event in Rabat.

Earning medals at international competitions highlights the comeback of Ukrainian track and field athletes after lengthy breaks and underscores the importance of supporting sports in Ukraine. The victories of Gerashchenko and Nikitin demonstrate their competitiveness and preparedness for future challenges. These achievements, in particular, could inspire young athletes and contribute to the growth of track and field in Ukraine.

In addition to their impressive performances in Poland, Ukrainian athletes continue to excel on the international stage. For instance, the recent achievements of Levchenko and Gerashchenko at the Diamond League highlight the ongoing resurgence of Ukrainian high jumpers, showcasing their ability to secure top positions in prestigious competitions.
