Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil, Gas, and Military Targets: Terminals, Refinery, and Frigate Hit
Ukrainian Forces Target Russian Infrastructure and Military Assets
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukrainian forces have executed a coordinated series of strikes against key Russian oil industry facilities and naval assets. The targets of these operations included:
- Terminals in the Leningrad region
- The port of Primorsk
- A refinery in Nizhny Novgorod
- A terminal in the Krasnodar region
- A frigate
In the early hours of April 7, drones reached the Leningrad region, striking the Ust-Luga Oil terminal. The attack successfully hit three reservoirs belonging to the Transneft-Baltika company. Separately, on April 5, an assault targeted the Transneft-Port Primorsk, where three oil reservoirs, each with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters, were set ablaze.
Also on April 5, the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery was damaged, with its primary oil processing units and a bitumen production line affected. In the Krasnodar region, the Sheskharis terminal was struck, damaging piers, pipelines, and three reservoirs at the Grushovaya base. The final target was military hardware: two drones struck the Project 11356R frigate Burevestnik, a vessel capable of carrying Kalibr cruise missiles.
Ukraine's Strategic Military Calculus
These strikes underscore the ongoing active hostilities between Ukraine and Russia and highlight Kyiv's continued efforts to degrade Russian military and economic infrastructure. This campaign reflects a broader strategy to target assets critical to Russia's war effort and its economy.
Ukraine's operations demonstrate a strategic focus on crippling the adversary's critical infrastructure, which could significantly impact both its economy and military capacity. Attacks on oil terminals aim to reduce resources available for the war, while strikes on military objects seek to diminish the threat Russia poses in the region. These deep-strike capabilities, developed in response to the full-scale invasion, signal an escalation in Ukraine's willingness to carry the fight to Russian territory.
In light of these recent strikes, it is essential to understand the broader context of Ukraine's military strategy. The ongoing efforts to target critical Russian military infrastructure not only disrupt supply lines but also aim to weaken the adversary's operational capabilities.
