Ukraine Reports Starlink Speeds Recovering as Zelensky Awaits Rubio’s Confirmation
Starlink Terminals Showing Signs of Speed Restoration
According to Рубрика — Політика: Ukrainian military sources indicate that the Starlink satellite terminals may be regaining their full operational speed. President Volodymyr Zelensky is currently awaiting confirmation from U.S. Senator Marco Rubio regarding the status of Starlink services, while also discussing the delivery of military equipment and satellite communication systems with him.
Drone unit commanders have observed a potential return to higher satellite communication speeds. However, Zelensky noted that the top speed of 400 km/h has not yet been fully restored.
'The 400 km/h speed has not been restored yet. Rubio promised that within 48+ hours he will provide an update. I expect diplomats to connect tomorrow or the day after, and we will continue discussions.' - Volodymyr Zelensky
Oliver Carroll, a journalist with The Economist, also reported on the possible lifting of restrictions on Starlink access, sharing on the social media platform X: 'They are still conducting tests, but it looks like this is indeed happening.' Meanwhile, Pentagon chief Pete Gheset emphasized that Washington has not imposed any bans or limitations on Ukraine’s access to the Starshield system.
Additionally, on October 22, 2026, Marco Rubio announced that Ukraine currently does not have access to the U.S. military satellite system Starshield, and discussions about granting such access are ongoing. The company providing Starlink services makes decisions about usage based on its service terms.
Importance of Satellite Technology Access Remains High
The question of restoring full Starlink terminal functionality and obtaining access to Starshield remains a priority for Ukrainian authorities, who continue to seek necessary information and technical support.
Reliable satellite communication is crucial for maintaining command and coordination within the Ukrainian armed forces, especially amid ongoing active combat operations. Successful resolution of these issues directly impacts the effective deployment of drones and other satellite-dependent technologies on the battlefield.
In light of the ongoing discussions regarding Starlink's operational status, it's crucial to understand the broader implications of access to military satellite systems. A recent report highlights that Washington has refuted claims of restricting access to the Starshield system for Ukraine, emphasizing the strategic importance of reliable satellite communication during these critical times.
