Vladyslav Klymenko's U-20 European Championship Triumph

According to Главком: At the U-20 Skeleton European Championships in Winterberg, 16-year-old Ukrainian Vladyslav Klymenko clinched a bronze medal. This podium finish also secured an Olympic quota spot for Ukraine at the 2026 Winter Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Klymenko's performance marks a significant achievement for a nation building its presence in winter sports.

Results from the Junior Competitors

In the U-23 category, Vladyslav Klymenko placed fifth. His younger teammates also delivered strong results in the U-20 event:

  • Leonid Tkachuk, 15 years old - 7th place
  • Anton Kovalchuk, 14 years old - 8th place
  • Maksym Churylych, 14 years old - 10th place

The Olympic quota for Ukraine was officially obtained through Vladyslav Heraskevych, who ranked 11th in the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) qualification standings. He was the sole athlete to earn this quota for the country.

Heraskevych has also been selected as Ukraine's flag bearer for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Olympics.

The men's skeleton competition at the Games is scheduled to begin on February 12. Klymenko's success highlights the promising development of Ukrainian skeleton on the world stage, coming at a crucial time for the sport's growth in the country. The strong showing by these junior athletes suggests a bright future and could inspire a new generation of participants.
