Ukrainian Performances at the 2026 French Open

According to Главком: Vitaliy Sachko (ATP 207) saw his run at the 2026 French Open come to an end after losing in the qualifying semifinals to Peru's Gonzalo Bueno (ATP 185). The match lasted 1 hour and 17 minutes, finishing 2–6, 4–6. This was the first career meeting between the two players.

In the opening set, the Ukrainian dropped it 2–6. Although he built a 3–1 lead with a break in the second set, Bueno fought back to take it 4–6. This defeat marks Sachko's second attempt to reach the main draw at Roland Garros-and unfortunately, his second failure to do so.

Other Ukrainians in Qualifying Action

Ukrainian tennis player Katarina Zavatska is also competing in the qualifying rounds. She is set to face Latvia's Daria Semenista. The main draw of Roland Garros 2026 begins on May 24 and runs through June 7. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will miss the tournament due to injury, leaving the men's field wide open.

Another Ukrainian, Veronika Podrez, has already exited the 2026 French Open qualifying tournament. In the first round, she lost in straight sets to Czech player Dominika Šalková. It was Podrez's first appearance in a Grand Slam qualifying event. Notably, she had beaten the same opponent in a previous match back in April.

Sachko's loss in the qualifying semifinals highlights the challenges Ukrainian players continue to face on the international stage. Despite this setback, he has shown potential for future success, and the experience gained from such high-level competition could prove valuable for his career. Meanwhile, the continued participation of other Ukrainian women in the qualifiers offers hope for strong results, especially given their past achievements at various competitive levels.

While Sachko's journey in the qualifying rounds has come to an end, other Ukrainian players continue to strive for success at Roland Garros. In particular, Veronika Podrez faced a challenging match in her own qualifying attempt, emphasizing the competitive nature of this prestigious tournament. As the main draw approaches, the hopes for a strong Ukrainian presence remain high.
