Icy Conditions and Avalanche Threats Forecast for Ukraine

According to ДСНС: Ukrainian meteorologists have issued warnings for hazardous icy glaze and a significant avalanche threat. On January 27, freezing rain is expected across central, most northern, and southern regions. Roads throughout the country, except in the south, are forecast to experience a Level I (yellow) danger of icy conditions.

Significant Avalanche Danger in Mountainous Regions

Furthermore, a considerable avalanche danger (Level 3) is anticipated in mountainous areas from January 26-27, particularly in the highlands of the Precarpathian region and the eastern part of Zakarpattia. In these zones, there is a risk of snow slides onto roads, which could severely disrupt transportation. Such winter weather events are not uncommon in the region during late January, but they require heightened public awareness.

These conditions are likely to significantly impact road safety, prompting advice for drivers to exercise extreme caution and heed weather forecasts. Local authorities may also implement measures to prevent emergencies, especially in mountainous areas where the avalanche risk is highest.

In light of these warnings, it is crucial for residents and travelers to monitor updates from weather services and follow official guidance.
