Ukraine is facing a sharp drop in temperature: heavy snow and frost up to 23 degrees

According to ДСНС: In Ukraine, a sharp drop in temperature is expected from January 8 to 11, accompanied by worsening weather conditions, snow, and blizzards. Meteorological forecasts indicate that significant snowfall may occur on January 8-9 in the western and northern regions, as well as in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions, bringing from 10 to 25 cm of snow. Wind gusts in these regions could reach 15-18 m/s.

Expected temperatures and impact on transportation

In Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, heavy snow and wet snow are also forecasted, locally up to 25 cm. The next two days, January 10-11, will bring a sharp drop in temperature. At night, the air temperature will drop to 14-20° frost, with some areas potentially seeing temperatures as low as 23° frost, particularly in the western, northern, Vinnytsia, and Cherkasy regions. During the day, temperatures in these regions will range from 9 to 15° frost. In Kirovohrad and Poltava regions, a temperature of 6-12° frost is expected, while in the south, east, and Dnipropetrovsk region, the temperature will remain between 4° frost and 4° warmth.

The expected cold snap and snowfall may significantly impact transportation infrastructure, particularly leading to delays in road and rail transport. Citizens are advised to be cautious on the roads and to ensure proper conditions for thermal insulation of residential premises. In conditions of lower temperatures, authorities may activate measures to ensure the safety of the population and provide assistance to those in need.
