Weather Forecast for Ukraine on February 23

According to Главком: The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has issued a warning for hazardous weather conditions expected across the country on February 23. The forecast predicts cloudy skies with wet snow and rain, leading to ice formation on roads. This wintry mix will affect most of the nation, excluding the eastern and southeastern regions. Significant precipitation is anticipated overnight in the Transcarpathian region and the Carpathian Mountains. Such winter weather events are common in late February as transitional seasons bring volatile conditions.

Due to the deteriorating weather, the State Weather Service highlights the risks associated with wet snow accumulation, ice glaze, and slippery roads, which are likely to impact travel safety. The worsening conditions will particularly affect the northern regions, Vinnytsia Oblast, western areas, as well as Cherkasy and Poltava Oblasts. Overnight, precipitation will be most active in the western and northern regions and Vinnytsia Oblast.

Expected Weather Conditions

Winds during the day will predominantly be southwesterly at speeds of 7-12 m/s, with gusts potentially reaching 15-20 m/s in the Carpathians. Nighttime temperatures will range from 7-12°C below zero in the northeast, Cherkasy, and Kirovohrad regions, to 2°C above zero in some areas. Daytime temperatures will fluctuate between -3°C and +2°C, while the west and south can expect 2-7°C of warmth.

In Kyiv, the weather will also be cloudy with wet snow, occasional rain, snow accumulation, and icy roads. The temperature in the capital will hover around 0°C, while across the Kyiv region it will vary from -3°C to +2°C. A Level 1 (yellow) weather hazard warning is in effect for the city, advising heightened caution on the roads.

"The forecasted conditions could significantly disrupt transportation across Ukraine, especially in regions expecting the heaviest precipitation."
