Kyiv Under Attack: June 15 Assault

According to Главком: In the early hours of June 15, a Russian strike on Kyiv caused extensive damage. Among the hardest-hit sites was a former Ukrposhta branch in the Desnianskyi district. The building, located in the Troieshchyna neighborhood, had been vacant for the past two years, with no staff or parcels inside. It was completely destroyed, reduced to its foundation, yet remarkably no casualties or cargo losses occurred.

The assault also struck other key locations across the capital. A hit was recorded at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, sparking a fire that engulfed the roof of the Dormition Cathedral. Fortunately, relics and liturgical items from the monastery had been evacuated beforehand. In the Pecherskyi district, a five-story residential building was hit, while in Obolonskyi, a residential structure suffered damage between the third and fourth floors. Another strike targeted a nine-story apartment building in the Solomianskyi district.

Cultural Heritage Under Fire

The attack also damaged the National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio. A fire broke out on the premises, and the strike obliterated Ukraine’s largest and oldest costume collection, which housed approximately 100,000 costumes and three million clothing items. Additional studio buildings and facilities were also harmed.

Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smilianskyi commented on the incident, saying: 'Fortunately, apart from the building... no one was hurt.'

Just last week, the enemy partially destroyed the company’s logistics hub in Kharkiv. Ukrposhta had planned to expand service points for Troieshchyna residents this year. The news was reported by the publication 'Glavkom'.

Russia’s ongoing strikes on Kyiv continue to inflict severe damage on Ukraine’s infrastructure and cultural heritage. Hits on landmarks like the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra and the national film studio underscore not only physical destruction but also a threat to national identity and history. Given the current situation, support from the international community and efforts to rebuild destroyed sites remain critical. These attacks also highlight the urgent need for stronger security measures to protect civilian infrastructure and populations.

The recent attacks on Kyiv not only devastated infrastructure but also targeted significant cultural sites. Following the strike on the Ukrposhta building, there was another assault that hit the historic Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, leading to a fire and the loss of a unique costume collection at the National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio.
