Plan to Increase Ukrzaliznytsia Tariffs

According to Главком: Ukrzaliznytsia plans to increase tariffs for freight transport by 40%. The director of GMK Center, Stanislav Zinchenko, commented on this initiative, noting the risks for industry and the economy, as well as the reduction of the freight base. Over the course of the last 11 months, iron ore transportation decreased by 7%. If tariffs rise and cargo volumes decrease, this could lead to Ukrzaliznytsia being unable to generate more revenue.

Forecasts and Consequences

Forecasts indicate that next year there could be a 10% decrease in Ukrzaliznytsia's freight turnover, and in 2025, a further 5%. Grain shipments, which account for 30-40% of Ukrzaliznytsia's transport, may also suffer from the tariff increase. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the tariff schedule of Ukrzaliznytsia has not been revised since 2009. The Minister of Economy expressed confidence that a general increase in tariffs will not yield results.

This situation may negatively affect economic indicators, as increased transportation costs could reduce the demand for freight services. In conditions of declining transportation volumes, it is important to find a balance between tariffs and economic realities to avoid further deterioration of the situation in the industry.

The increase in freight tariffs by Ukrzaliznytsia may pose a significant challenge for Ukrainian enterprises, given the already existing reduction in transportation volumes. A decrease in freight turnover, especially amid global economic uncertainty, could lead to negative consequences for the industry and the agricultural sector. Monitoring the impact of this initiative on the market and timely response to possible changes in demand for freight services will be crucial.
