Ukrainian Railways Faces Daily Surge of 340,000 Ticket Requests
Key Update: Ukrainian Railways at Peak Season in 2026
According to Главком: Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) has entered its busiest period of 2026, processing 340,000 ticket requests every day. During this time, the company transports 80,000 passengers daily, highlighting a sharp rise in demand for rail travel. The ratio of applicants to available seats is expected to climb from 4 to between 6 and 7 contenders per spot, making it increasingly difficult to secure tickets.
In the first week of summer operations alone, Ukrainian Railways carried 472,873 passengers. The standout route this season has been Train No. 104 from Lviv to Lozova, which transported over 13,000 people. The company aims to move 7 million passengers over the three summer months, underscoring the need for careful trip planning.
Advice for Travelers
Ukrainian Railways urges passengers to book their journeys well in advance.
'To ensure your trip happens, there are a couple of effective strategies. The most important is early planning. The sooner you decide to travel and start monitoring tickets, the better your chances of buying them. Tickets go on sale 20 days before the departure date,' the company stated.
Additionally, an auto-purchase feature is available through the Ukrainian Railways app, simplifying the ticket buying process.
Military personnel and their families can access specially reserved tickets via the Army+ app. Starting June 28, an updated summer train schedule will take effect, with tickets for new and adjusted routes already on sale. These changes aim to ensure comfortable and safe travel for all passengers.
The growing demand for rail services in Ukraine reflects a revival of domestic tourism and increased travel activity among the population. In response to this trend, Ukrainian Railways is rolling out new solutions to ease ticket purchasing, which could enhance the overall passenger experience. Innovations like the auto-purchase feature are particularly significant, as they may reduce queues and improve access to transportation for all citizen categories.
As the demand for rail travel surges, Ukrainian Railways is also adapting its services to meet passenger needs. This summer, the introduction of daily train schedules for several routes will provide more options for travelers. These adjustments aim to alleviate congestion and enhance travel experiences during the peak season.
