'Unbreakable Point' Hub Opens at Chelm Station

According to Главком: Ukraine's state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, has inaugurated a new 'Unbreakable Point' support hub at the Chelm station in Poland. This facility is designed to serve as a vital transit center for the thousands of passengers traveling between Ukraine and Europe. The hub, which welcomed over a hundred passengers on its first day, features heated railcars, a children's play area, spaces for feeding and nursing, and charging stations for electronic devices.

Connections and Infrastructure

Chelm station serves as a connection point for five pairs of passenger trains originating from Ukrainian cities like Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Kyiv. From Chelm, passengers can transfer to key European destinations, including Berlin, Warsaw, Łódź, and Poznań. The station handles an estimated daily traffic of up to three thousand passengers, making it a crucial regional transport node. This new hub is part of broader efforts to support the millions of Ukrainians who have traveled abroad since the full-scale invasion began.

The 'Unbreakable Point' is set up in heated railcars on the station's third platform. One carriage contains a dedicated play zone for children, along with facilities for feeding and diaper changing. Both carriages are equipped with device-charging ports for traveler convenience. The second carriage also hosts a display featuring part of photographer Howard Buffett's collection, adding a cultural dimension to the space.

Renovation of the Chelm station building has been ongoing since 2024, signaling a commitment to upgrading the station's infrastructure and passenger services. Across Ukraine, 97 of these round-the-clock 'Unbreakable Point' hubs operate, providing aid and support to travelers. Separately, Ukrzaliznytsia has announced plans to import approximately 50% of the electricity it will consume this winter, highlighting the critical need to ensure stable power for the national transport system.

The launch of the Chelm hub represents a significant step in supporting Ukrainian travelers amid ongoing challenges. It not only provides essential comforts but also demonstrates Ukrzaliznytsia's efforts to enhance service and safety on international routes. The inclusion of cultural elements, like the photo exhibition, underscores a broader aim of fostering cultural connections within the European context.
