Warming Shelter Opens at Przemyśl Station for Ukrainian Rail Passengers
Heating Shelter Launched at Przemyśl Railway Station
According to Міністерство інфраструктури: Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia), in cooperation with the Polish company PKP PLK, has established a warming shelter for passengers at the Przemyśl station. This initiative aims to provide comfort and safety for those traveling to and from Ukraine, particularly during cold weather. PKP PLK supplied the shelter tent, while Ukrzaliznytsia provides hot tea and staff to operate the facility. The shelter is a direct response to the needs of the high volume of cross-border travelers, many of whom face long, difficult journeys.
The warming point operates from early morning until late at night, aligning with the schedule of trains running between Ukraine and Poland. So far, more than 150 visitors have used the shelter to find warmth and support. It is important to note that both Chełm and Przemyśl serve as critical transit hubs, with thousands of people passing through them daily.
Additional Passenger Services Available
Further support is available in Chełm, where 'Invincibility Trains' are stationed. These carriages feature specially equipped compartments for children and passengers traveling with pets. Staff from Ukrzaliznytsia are present at these warming points to offer necessary assistance and information to travelers.
The opening of the warming shelter at Przemyśl station represents a significant step in ensuring passenger safety and comfort, especially during the winter months.
This project highlights the ongoing cooperation between Ukraine and Poland in the transport sector and in supporting cross-border travelers. The availability of such a shelter can substantially ease the situation for passengers in need of warmth and rest during their journeys. Given the intense flow of people through these areas, services like this help reduce stress and improve the overall travel experience for a vulnerable population.
