After Third-Place Finishes at All-Ukrainian School Leagues, Zhytomyr Region's Young Athletes Travel to Zakarpattia
A Reward Trip to the 'Plich-o-plich' Camp
According to Рубрика: On 24 August, young track-and-field athletes from the city of Zhytomyr and footballers from Korosten set out for the Plich-o-plich sports and wellness camp in Zakarpattia. The trip was a prize for the third-place finishes both teams earned at the final national stage of the Plich-o-plich: All-Ukrainian School Leagues project in the 2025/2026 season.
Two teams from the Zhytomyr region are now at the camp:
- Zhytomyr Lyceum No. 16, which took third place in athletics for pupils in grades 3–4;
- Korosten City Lyceum No. 10, whose footballers placed third in mass football for pupils in grades 1–4.
Funding, Support, and the Growth of Youth Sport
Financial support for the Zhytomyr region teams' participation in the project comes from the BGV Charity Fund, which has backed the initiative for a second consecutive season. This year, the fund's contribution topped UAH 1 million, a major boost for school-level sport. Its total assistance for the 2024–2025 season came to 662,360 UAH.
Plich-o-plich is a national presidential initiative aimed at student sports, and it features 12 disciplines in the 2025/2026 season. During two weeks in May 2026, close to 17,000 schoolchildren from 21 regions took part. The competitions are designed to build physical fitness among students. In Kherson region, the project went ahead despite regular shelling and drew 193 children. Also, after a missile attack on Korosten in April 2026, 36 children from the area went to Tallinn for a ten-day health-and-recovery stay, arranged by the BGV Charity Fund, Tallinn's city administration, and the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration.
Plich-o-plich continues to deliver, creating paths for young sportspeople and helping them develop under difficult conditions.
Beyond motivating children to stay active, the project highlights how much youth sport in Ukraine depends on collective support, especially in regions facing hardship. BGV Charity Fund's backing is a key part of that effort, giving children chances to train, compete, and recover, which in turn benefits their physical and emotional well-being. The initiative also shows how communities and organizations can take responsibility for supporting young people in turbulent times. It forms part of the wider wartime effort in Ukraine to keep school sports going and children engaged.
As the BGV Charity Fund continues to play a pivotal role in supporting youth sports, its recent partnership with the Olympic Hopes 2026 tournament highlights the growing commitment to nurturing young athletes across Ukraine. This collaboration not only underscores the foundation's dedication but also amplifies opportunities for emerging talents.
