Skylodge Adventure Suites: A One-of-a-Kind Cliffside Hotel

According to УНІАН — Туризм: Perched 365 meters above the Sacred Valley of Peru, Skylodge Adventure Suites offers an unparalleled lodging experience for adventurous travelers. Accessible only via a challenging via ferrata route featuring ladders, metal steps, cable crossings, and iron rungs, reaching the transparent capsules takes about two hours at an altitude exceeding 3200 meters above sea level. The package, which includes transfers, a guide, the climb up and down, costs 1640 Peruvian soles (approximately £350 or $480) per person. The optimal time to visit is during the dry season, from April through October.

Exceptional Accommodations and Cultural Richness

The sleeping pods contain three beds-a double and two singles-and offer views through six windows. While guests will find an eco-friendly dry toilet inside, there is no shower facility. After an overnight stay, visitors descend via a zipline system composed of six cables ranging from 150 to 700 meters in length. The cliff’s drop beneath the route exceeds 200 meters, and the steel cable used measures about 1.3 centimeters in diameter.

The Sacred Valley itself has deep historical roots as a vital agricultural hub during the Inca Empire. The nearby village of Pachar, situated 10 kilometers from Ollantaytambo, plays a significant role in this cultural landscape. As guide Lopez explains:

“The Incas believed the Urubamba River below reflected the Milky Way on earth, and that every living being had a celestial counterpart in this stunning galaxy.”

He also advises, “Don’t go to sleep too early; the Milky Way is best admired late at night.”

For comparison, France’s highest-altitude hotel, Hôtellerie des Laquets, sits at 2620 meters above sea level. Built between 1930 and 1933 and reopened after a 30-year hiatus in September following renovation, it shares Skylodge’s appeal for travelers seeking extraordinary high-altitude stays.

The emergence of unique accommodations like Skylodge Adventure Suites highlights the growing demand for active and extreme tourism experiences. Beyond simply immersing in nature’s beauty, guests embrace the adrenaline rush from the ascent and descent. In today’s globalized and competitive travel market, such distinctive offerings are key to attracting visitors, boosting local tourism, and stimulating regional economies.
