Eleven New Nonstop Routes to Europe From United Airlines Are Set for Summer 2027
Where the New US Flights to Europe Will Land
According to УНІАН — Туризм: United Airlines has unveiled a major expansion of its transatlantic network for the summer of 2027. The carrier will add 11 nonstop routes from the United States to Europe, serving Luxembourg, France, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. It will also bring back four seasonal routes out of New York. For American travelers, this broadens access to both capital cities and popular Mediterranean destinations without connecting through a hub in Europe.
The new service will operate from three U.S. gateways: Washington, D.C., New York/Newark, and Denver. On April 2, 2027, Newark–Luxembourg will begin with daily Airbus A321XLR service. Washington–Toulouse follows on April 26, 2027, also daily on the same aircraft type. Additional new routes from Newark are:
- Ljubljana
- Olbia
- Catania
- Ibiza
- Valencia
- Marseille
- Terceira
These flights will use Boeing 767-400ER, Boeing 767-300ER, and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
Four More Routes Returning for Summer
In addition to brand-new destinations, United will resume seasonal service from New York to Split in Croatia, Bari in Italy, Glasgow in the United Kingdom, and Santiago de Compostela in Spain. These restorations offer more travel choices to popular European regions and respond to ongoing demand.
The Airbus A321XLR and Boeing 737 MAX 8 used on the new routes can seat up to 200 passengers. That configuration supports more efficient and accessible connections between the U.S. and Europe, a key factor in driving tourism growth.
Free on-board internet
Meanwhile, Lufthansa has launched its own onboard connectivity upgrade: satellite internet from Starlink. The airline recently operated its first flight with the service on an Airbus A320neo registered D-AINM. By the end of 2026, Lufthansa plans to equip 10 additional aircraft from its main fleet and from Lufthansa City with Starlink, giving passengers free internet access during flights.
The moves by United and Lufthansa point to a rebound in post-pandemic air travel demand. With more routes and modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi, airlines are competing to attract passengers and improve service quality. As a result, transatlantic competition between the U.S. and Europe is expected to intensify.
As United Airlines expands its European routes, it's worth noting the growing trend of long-haul flights connecting major cities across the globe. For instance, the recently established New York–Singapore route has gained attention for being the longest scheduled air service, reflecting the increasing demand for direct international travel. This evolution in air travel not only enhances accessibility but also fosters tourism and economic ties between regions.
