Legislative Measures for Economic Stability

According to Рубрика — Політика: On September 9, the Ukrainian Government approved and forwarded three legislative proposals to the Verkhovna Rada as part of a broader initiative aimed at attracting international financial support and managing the state budget deficit. These bills focus on reforms involving the National Securities and Stock Market Commission, JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia," and the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine. Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky highlighted the significance of these measures in ensuring the country's financial stability.

Current State of the National Budget

Since early September, the Government has approved eight bills for parliamentary consideration, including four crucial for securing external funding. Prime Minister Koretsky emphasized the gravity of the budget shortfall, stating:

“The state budget deficit is a serious challenge. This requires unified and coordinated efforts. The Government has fulfilled its part: since the beginning of September, we have approved and submitted eight bills for consideration.” – Serhiy Koretsky

He also urged members of parliament to back these proposals, regardless of political affiliations, saying:

“I call on all deputies to support the Government, Ukraine, and its citizens by promptly passing all necessary legislation to secure financial aid.” – Serhiy Koretsky

He stressed the importance of shared responsibility in addressing the nation's financial challenges: “It's vital that everyone fully understands our collective duty.”

It is worth recalling that on September 1, President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly criticized the Verkhovna Rada deputies for failing to pass five key laws that could have unlocked over $4 billion in international support, including funds from the International Monetary Fund program. All essential Government decisions must be enacted by November 1 to strengthen the country’s financial stability.

The Government’s adoption of these new bills comes at a critical juncture amid Ukraine’s ongoing fiscal difficulties. Successfully enacting these laws could pave the way for vital international financial assistance, helping to close the budget gap and safeguard economic steadiness. Following the President’s remarks on parliamentary inaction, the forthcoming votes on these bills will serve as a crucial indicator of lawmakers’ political commitment and accountability.

As the government seeks to navigate the complex landscape of international funding, it is essential to understand the collaborative efforts between the parliament and the executive branch. Recent discussions have focused on aligning procedures to streamline the approval of vital legislation aimed at bolstering Ukraine's financial support.
