Review of critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: The government of Ukraine has initiated an urgent review of the list of critical infrastructure facilities to ensure priority electricity supply. It was found that approximately 3 thousand out of 5 thousand facilities receive electricity without schedules, raising concerns about their importance. Volodymyr Omelchenko noted that the lists included enterprises that are not critically important for the functioning of the country.

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to urgently update the lists of critical infrastructure. It is important for the list to be cleared of facilities that have no direct relation to defense or the life support of the population. The goal of this review is to redirect released volumes of electricity to the household needs of citizens, as noted by Yuliya Svyrydenko.

Expert opinion

However, not all experts believe that this step will be effective. Stanislav Ihnatyiev expressed doubts about the effectiveness of such changes, while Volodymyr Omelchenko emphasized that the planned actions will not bring the desired results due to generation deficits and network limitations that are significantly greater than the existing problems with electricity supply.

The review of the list of critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine is an important step against the backdrop of current challenges in the energy sector, especially in conditions of war and constant attacks on energy infrastructure. Cleaning the lists of unimportant facilities can help optimize electricity supply and provide greater attention to the life support of the population. However, critical remarks from experts indicate that without addressing the fundamental problems of generation and infrastructure, these changes may not yield the expected effect.
