Government Reallocates Funds for School Shelter Completion
According to Кабмін: The Ukrainian government has redirected 231 million hryvnias in subventions to finalize the construction of school shelters across 11 regions. This funding will support 22 projects that are at least 60% complete, with all work scheduled for completion this year. These measures are a critical part of the national effort to protect students and restore educational continuity during the ongoing conflict.
Projects Spanning 11 Regions
The shelter projects are being implemented in the following oblasts:
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Zaporizhzhia
- Kirovohrad
- Lviv
- Mykolaiv
- Odesa
- Poltava
- Rivne
- Sumy
- Kherson
- Khmelnytskyi
The shelters will serve students from regular schools, military lyceums, naval lyceums, and lyceums with enhanced military and physical training programs.
This year's state budget has earmarked 5 billion hryvnias for school shelters, with a special priority given to frontline regions. As Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko stated,
“Educational safety is a Government priority. We are doing everything possible so children can return to in-person learning as quickly as the security situation allows.”
Ensuring safety in educational institutions is a vital component of restoring Ukraine's educational process, particularly under the conditions of war. The reallocation of these funds will not only protect the lives and health of pupils but also help normalize schooling in areas affected by hostilities. These actions underscore the state's commitment to supporting education and adapting to new security challenges.
