Ukraine Secures Communications During Blackouts with Over 15,000 Generators
Meeting with Mobile Network Operators
According to Кабмін: Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko convened a meeting with representatives of the country's mobile network operators to address maintaining stable communications during widespread power outages. A central outcome of the discussion was the announcement that over 15,000 generators have been procured to provide backup power for cellular base stations. This effort is critical as Russia's ongoing war has repeatedly targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leading to frequent blackouts.
To date, more than 8,000 base stations are already operational using these new generators, ensuring the continuity of mobile services nationwide. Meeting participants also addressed the logistical challenge of securing sufficient fuel reserves to keep the generators running. Yuliia Svyrydenko emphasized the shared goal, stating:
'Our collective task is to guarantee connectivity across the entire country, even during prolonged blackouts.' Yuliia Svyrydenko
Significance of the Initiative
This initiative is vital given the severe challenges Ukraine faces from the ongoing conflict and its impact on critical infrastructure. Ensuring stable mobile connectivity during power cuts not only enhances national communication security but also supports citizens in difficult times, allowing them to stay in contact with family and emergency services when it matters most.
