Ukraine Allocates $22.35 Billion to Fortify Critical Infrastructure Against Attacks
Funding for Critical Infrastructure Protection
According to Главком: The Ukrainian government has approved 22.35 billion hryvnias for constructing physical defenses around critical infrastructure sites. This substantial investment is a direct response to the ongoing war and aims to secure vital water, heating, and electricity supply systems, as well as strategic nodes of the national railway, Ukrzaliznytsia. The plan involves implementing over 600 specific protective elements across various facilities.
Construction and preparatory work are currently underway at these critical sites. Oleksiy Kuleba, a representative of the Cabinet of Ministers, stated that
"for each facility, there is a clear understanding of what specific protection is needed and how to implement it."
He also noted that
"we are finalizing the technical preparation for new sites."
The Current Security Situation
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy provided an update on the country's security situation, highlighting Russia's continued aggression. He reported that in just the past week, Russian forces have deployed over 3,000 attack drones, more than 1,450 guided aerial bombs, and an additional 40 missiles of various types. Zelenskyy emphasized that
"the Russians are not slowing the pace of their war against our state and our people,"
underscoring the persistent nature of the threat.
A coordination meeting involving the State Agency for Restoration, regional military administrations, relevant services and ministries, and representatives of the General Staff was held to discuss these measures. The discussions focused on enhancing the protection level for critically important infrastructure, a matter of extreme urgency given the existing threats.
Thus, the Ukrainian authorities continue to implement measures to strengthen the country's defense capabilities, particularly in the context of shielding critical infrastructure from potential attacks. This decision by the Cabinet of Ministers is part of Ukraine's comprehensive strategy for protecting vital facilities during wartime. Given the aggressor's activity, reinforcing the physical security of infrastructure has become a priority for ensuring public safety and national stability. The involvement of various state structures in implementing this plan demonstrates the coordinated efforts of the Ukrainian government in countering external threats.
In light of the ongoing threats to national security, the Ukrainian government is not only investing in physical defenses but has also allocated significant resources to enhance protection for critical infrastructure. For instance, a recent announcement revealed the allocation of 9.2 billion hryvnias to strengthen 245 critical sites across the country. This coordinated effort underscores a comprehensive strategy to safeguard vital services amidst escalating aggression.
