Boosting School Meal Facilities in Ukraine

According to Кабмін: Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved a second round of subsidies for school cafeteria improvements, allocating 421.1 million UAH across 15 regions. These funds will support the creation and modernization of 25 food preparation units as part of a broader school nutrition reform aimed at upgrading educational infrastructure.

Earlier, the government directed 46.5 million UAH to complete renovations on 19 school cafeterias that had begun in 2025. To date, roughly 20% of all school food units have been modernized, with 188 of those funded through state subsidies. Additionally, over 1,500 cafeterias have been renovated using local budget resources and support from international partners.

Why This Initiative Matters

Yuliia Svyrydenko stated: 'The funds will be used to purchase equipment and to build or upgrade 25 food preparation units. Meals in educational institutions must be safe and of high quality. This fosters a culture of healthy eating and represents an investment in children’s futures.'

This effort underscores the critical role of improved dining conditions in schools, which can positively affect students’ health and academic performance. Building on prior investments and collaboration with local governments and international organizations, the initiative signals continued progress in enhancing school infrastructure and food quality across Ukraine.
