For the First Time, Yuriy Nikitin Reveals Why He Never Married Iryna Bilyk
Inside Nikitin's Decision Not to Marry Bilyk
According to РБК-Україна — Lite: Yuriy Nikitin has finally opened up about why he never tied the knot with singer Iryna Bilyk. According to him, in his younger years he saw no point in formal marriage, felt unprepared due to his career ambitions, and dismissed rumors that he forbade her from becoming pregnant. The couple first met in the summer of 1990 at the 'Vesnyani Nadii' (Spring Hopes) festival. Three years later, Nikitin became Bilyk's producer, and they lived together in a common-law marriage for about eight years. Ultimately, they parted ways due to differing views on the future.
Nikitin explained that official marriage never held significance for him:
“For me, official marriage was something strange. I never understood why you would do it, especially when there are no children involved,”
he said. He also noted that music and career were his top priorities in his youth:
“What kind of family idyll can you have at 20? I was a rock musician who had traveled across the entire Soviet Union and came to Ukraine to build my career.”
Nikitin refuted claims that he forbade Bilyk from having children, stating that they only had discussions about the future:
“The word 'forbade' is quite harsh. We had conversations about whether it was the right time to have kids. But it wasn't like she said, 'I want a child,' and I said, 'I forbid you.'”
He emphasized that he expressed his opinion, but it was never a matter of prohibition.
Today, Nikitin serves as the godfather of Bilyk's eldest son, Hlib Overchuk. After his relationship with Bilyk ended, Nikitin met Olha Horbachova, with whom he has two daughters-Polina and Serafima. Nikitin and Horbachova are currently in the process of divorcing. Despite their split, Nikitin and Bilyk continued to work together professionally until 2014.
This story of Nikitin and Bilyk illustrates how personal and professional ambitions can shape a relationship. Even though their love did not lead to an official marriage, both artists managed to maintain a professional collaboration-a rare feat in the entertainment world. Their situation also highlights the importance of communication in a couple, especially when it comes to family and children.
While Yuriy Nikitin's perspective on marriage and relationships provides insight into his past, it also highlights a broader trend in the entertainment industry.
