Express train accident in India: seven elephants killed, hundreds of passengers unharmed
According to glavcom.ua: Today in the state of Assam, India, a tragedy occurred - seven wild Asian elephants were killed due to a railway accident. The incident happened as a herd of elephants was crossing the tracks, and the train could not avoid a collision. Six elephants remained at the scene of death, while another calf was injured.
Passengers in the damaged cars were evacuated, taken to the nearest city, while the rest of the passengers continued their journey. Experts associate the increase in incidents of elephants colliding with trains with the rice harvesting season, when the animals seek food outside the forests. Such tragedies have already become a systemic problem in this region, and the authorities of Assam must take action to protect the native elephants from such horrible adventures.
