In Ivano-Frankivsk, public transport will be free on August 24, 2026
In Ivano-Frankivsk, on Ukraine's Independence Day, August 24, 2026, free public transport will be introduced. Residents and guests of the city will not have to pay for rides. This is stated in the decision of the executive committee of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council.
The exemption will apply throughout the holiday day on routes serviced by the municipal carrier. No ticket purchase or verification of entitlement to the preferential category will be required for travel.
Which transport in Ivano-Frankivsk will be free on August 24, 2026
Passengers will be transported without payment on the bus and trolleybus routes of the Ivano-Frankivsk urban community.
Free transport is provided for:

in municipal trolleybuses;

in municipal buses;
-
for residents of Ivano-Frankivsk;
-
for visitors to the city.
The decision applies to all passengers of public transport, regardless of age, place of residence, or possession of a preferential certificate.
How private buses will operate in Ivano-Frankivsk on August 24
The city authorities have recommended that private carriers transport passengers for free, who will be dressed in national attire on August 24.
Unlike public transport, for private buses, this is a recommendation and not a mandatory requirement. Therefore, the decision to provide free transport will be made by each carrier individually.
Passengers on private routes should clarify the conditions directly in the vehicle. If the carrier does not support the initiative of the city council, the fare will remain payable at the regular rate.
Free rides will be implemented only for one day, August 24, on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day. After the holiday, public transport will return to the regular payment system.
It should be noted that due to a shortage of drivers and staff, particularly because of mobilization, fewer buses and trolleybuses are operating on the routes of Ivano-Frankivsk.
