The new dual buses are equipped with air conditioners, video surveillance systems, and passenger counting systems, as well as ramps for people with limited mobility. Thanks to their autonomous operation, they can work in areas without electrical networks.
The city purchased eight vehicles through a loan of 3 million euros from the European Investment Bank. Another dual bus was received for free as part of a grant of 615 thousand euros from the European Union Neighborhood Investment Platform within the joint project of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the EIB. The loan will be repaid over 22 years at an interest rate of 1.6% per annum.
New dual bus route: testing and launch plans
At the end of 2025, the city already tested a dual bus on the experimental trolleybus route No. 1. Its launch was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the first trolleybus appearance in Ivano-Frankivsk. The route passed through several neighborhoods and the railway station, and travel on the test day was free.
Drivers note the high technical capabilities of the new equipment. According to one of them, a dual bus on autonomous drive without passengers can travel over 90 km.
The permanent route connecting the 'Pozitron' and 'BAM' neighborhoods is planned to be launched by the city authorities around February 2026. This will be one of the largest updates of the city's public transport in recent years.
It should be noted that in 2026, salaries of kindergarten workers in the Ivano-Frankivsk community will increase on average by 25–30%.
