Reviving Malyn’s Children's Art School After Wartime Damage

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: In Malyn, a town in the Zhytomyr region, the restored Children's Art School has officially reopened following severe damage caused by a Russian missile attack in 2022. This extensive rehabilitation was made possible through Estonia’s generous support, which contributed approximately 85 million hryvnias toward rebuilding the facility. Today, the school educates 390 young students, guided by a dedicated team of 35 teachers committed to nurturing their talents.

The building suffered major destruction during the attack, but the renovation involved a comprehensive overhaul. Improvements included insulating the exterior walls, thorough refurbishment of interior spaces, upgrading engineering systems, and installing new plumbing. These upgrades have created a safe and welcoming environment for artistic education.

Celebratory Reopening Marks New Opportunities for Students

The reopening ceremony was attended by Estonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, and Estonia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Tiin Intelmann. Local official Nataliya Ostapchenko remarked:

"In 2022, a Russian missile struck the Malyn Art School building. While enemies can destroy structures, they cannot extinguish our children's desire to create, learn, and grow. Today, we proudly see the fruits of our joint efforts-a fully restored school where children can once again pursue music, choreography, and visual arts."

The revitalized school offers a wide range of programs, including:

• Violin
• Wind and percussion instruments
• Traditional folk instruments
• Solo vocal training

Students also have access to lessons in visual arts, dance, and music theory. Ostapchenko emphasized, "This achievement was made possible through close cooperation between the regional military administration, the local community, and our Estonian partners. Estonia consistently supports Ukraine, especially in rebuilding educational infrastructure."
