Ukraine may introduce e-hryvnia: when will the NBU launch the digital currency
The NBU is preparing a pilot project for the implementation of e-hryvnia
The National Bank of Ukraine plans to implement its digital currency - e-hryvnia. This was announced by Oleksiy Shaban, Deputy Head of the NBU. According to him, e-hryvnia will not replace cash and deposits, but will serve as an additional option that can be used at will. While the decision for a large-scale release of e-hryvnia has not been made, preparations for the pilot project have already begun. The project is planned to be conducted on the basis of DLT technology with the involvement of real users and payment service providers. This will allow testing the functions and effectiveness of e-hryvnia programming. E-hryvnia will be a digital form of hryvnia, the issuer of which is the National Bank. With the implementation, e-hryvnia will become a legal means of payment in Ukraine and will exist in a cashless form.
