International Lynx Day

According to Мін. Економіки: Observed on June 11, International Lynx Day shines a spotlight on this rare feline species. Ukraine is home to the Eurasian lynx, a Red Book-listed animal whose population is estimated at just 600 to 700 individuals-a clear signal that conservation measures are urgently needed.

Protected under international environmental agreements, the Eurasian lynx is most commonly found in the Carpathian Mountains and the Polissia region, where natural habitats still exist. Ukraine has adopted a dedicated Action Plan for the conservation of the Eurasian lynx, outlining a series of steps to safeguard and restore the species' numbers.

Why Lynx Conservation Matters

Preserving the lynx is crucial for maintaining ecological balance in the regions it inhabits. A photo of the lynx has been provided by the Verkhovynskyi National Nature Park.

International Lynx Day serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting rare animals and their natural environments. Given the declining population of the Eurasian lynx, active conservation efforts are critical for sustaining biodiversity in Ukraine. Implementing the Action Plan could mark a significant step toward improving the lynx's situation and preserving its natural range.
