In Ukraine, watermelon prices have collapsed: how much does a kilogram cost now
According to hvylya.net: Watermelon prices in Ukraine are falling rapidly
Watermelons in Ukraine continue to decrease sharply against the backdrop of rising supply in the market. According to EastFruit analysts, the current purchasing prices for melons from local farms range from 5 to 14 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 36% less than it was at the end of last working week.
This drop is associated with the accelerated ripening of watermelons due to the hot and sunny weather. However, at the same time, the drought in Southern Ukraine negatively affects the quality of the produce, which further exerts pressure on prices.
Farmers are losing from the devaluation
Despite the fact that in certain regions there is a decrease in production volumes, farmers are forced to lower prices to somehow sell the harvest. In many farms, due to unfavorable weather, harvest losses have been significant.
According to EastFruit calculations, the current price level is already 28% lower than it was at the end of July 2024. At the same time, producers do not rule out further devaluation, as more and more both local and imported watermelons are entering the market, while consumer demand remains weak.
Against the backdrop of the falling watermelon prices, the prices for new crop apples, on the contrary, show record growth.
The demand in the watermelon market in Ukraine is increasing, which causes a rapid drop in prices due to increased supply. Farmers are facing unfavorable weather, which leads to significant harvest losses and forces them to lower prices to sell their products.
