Battle-Tested in Ukraine: New Drone Detector Captures Live Video from Russian UAVs

Ukrainian engineers have created the D·Vision SDR, an advanced drone detection system that intercepts live video feeds from Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Developed by the Kyiv-based company CODE380, this device has been successfully tested in combat alongside Ukrainian military units, proving its reliability under battlefield conditions.

Capabilities and Strategic Importance of the D·Vision SDR

The D·Vision SDR operates across a wide frequency range of 500 to 8700 MHz, enabling it to adapt to frequent changes in the telemetry and communication frequencies used by Russian drones, which reportedly evolve almost weekly. Software updates are released roughly twice a month to keep pace with emerging threats. The system's core technology, Software-Defined Radio (SDR), is recognized as one of the most flexible and effective methods for detecting small drones, according to a 2022 survey published in the journal Sensors.

A critical advantage of the D·Vision SDR lies in its ability to detect Russian Molniya-type drones operating within the 4.1 to 4.5 GHz video frequency band-a range that most other detectors either cannot detect or monitor poorly. As expert Sergey Beskrestnov (Flash) warns,

“Most detectors either don’t pick up these frequencies or do so inadequately. Be cautious-overreliance on a detector could cost lives.”

This highlights the crucial role D·Vision SDR plays in frontline safety and operational success.

By providing real-time interception of enemy drone video streams, the D·Vision SDR significantly enhances Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, increasing the chances of mission success and safeguarding troops.

In the context of modern warfare, where drones are extensively used for reconnaissance and strikes, having effective detection and interception tools is essential. The development of D·Vision SDR marks a strategic milestone for Ukraine, strengthening its military’s ability to counter aerial threats and improve battlefield security.

As Ukraine enhances its defensive capabilities with the D·Vision SDR, the support from allied nations remains crucial. Recently, Spain, Belgium, and Poland have delivered 20mm ammunition to bolster the military efforts, ensuring that the Ukrainian forces are well-equipped to face evolving aerial threats.
