Over 75,000 Couples Have Chosen Ukraine’s Online Marriage Service Since Its Launch
Introduction of the "Marriage Online" Service
According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On September 9, 2024, Ukraine introduced its innovative digital platform for registering marriages electronically, known as "Marriage Online." Within just two years, this service has been used by more than 75,000 couples opting for remote marriage registration. Currently, nearly 40% of all new marriages registered across the country are completed through this online system.
The service operates through three Digital Civil Registry Offices (DRACS) located in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Lviv. Eligible participants include Ukrainian citizens aged 18 and over who possess a tax identification number and either a Ukrainian internal passport or an international passport issued via the Unified State Demographic Registry. The official launch event took place at Kyiv’s Digital DRACS office.
Expansion of Online Civil Services
Starting in September 2026, the platform expanded to offer electronic divorce registration for couples without minor children. This service is currently managed by the Kyiv Digital DRACS office.
Denys Maslov, Ukraine’s Minister of Justice, marked the service’s second anniversary by stating, "Two years ago, Ukraine achieved what once seemed impossible-allowing couples to officially marry online."
He also highlighted that "This is the world’s first-ever online marriage service. To date, over 62,000 couples have tied the knot using this platform, including 22,000 members of Ukraine’s armed forces."
"Marriage Online" represents a significant milestone in Ukraine’s digital transformation of civil status services, enabling couples to formalize their marriages quickly and conveniently in today’s digital era. Additionally, the Digital Civil Registry Offices process online applications for reissuing certificates and issuing extracts from the State Register of Civil Status Records.
The introduction of this service marks a crucial step toward modernizing public administration in Ukraine, enhancing accessibility for citizens. The increasing share of online marriages reflects growing public acceptance of digital solutions and trust in cutting-edge technologies within government functions. Continued development of this platform is expected to further integrate digital services into the daily lives of Ukrainians.
As Ukraine continues to innovate its civil services, the recent introduction of marriage certificate delivery for Ukrainians abroad adds another layer of convenience for couples navigating marital formalities. This service complements the existing online marriage registration, reflecting a growing trend towards digital solutions that enhance accessibility and efficiency for all citizens, regardless of their location.
